Longview, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team erased an early nine-point deficit and the Cru controlled the second half in a 78-67 victory over LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Longview. UMHB improves to 4-6 overall and 4-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the ASC on the year.
The Cru women fell behind 15-6 less than six minutes into the game, but used a 12-2 run to grab an 18-17 lead with 8:41 remaining in the first half. LeTourneau pushed the lead back to seven points before settling for a 32-29 halftime lead. UMHB took its first lead of the second half at 37-35 and would stretch it out to as many as 15 points before coasting to the victory.
Jovana Miles led UMHB with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Taylor Tucker added 15 points for the Cru,
Alyssa Dean chipped in 14 and
Macy Moore had ten points and nine boards. UMHB shot 39 percent from the field and out rebounded the Yellow Jackets 49-42 in the win. The Cru went 25-37 from the free-throw line.
Julencia Curtis led a balanced LeTourneau scoring attack with 12 points and Ashley Stephens chipped in 11 more. The Yellow Jackets shot 32 percent from the field and hit just 1-13 from beyond the arc. LeTourneau did hit 32-44 from the charity stripe in the game.
The Cru women will now return home to host three ASC games next week. That home stand starts with a 5:30 PM tip-off against Concordia Texas on Tuesday at the Mayborn Campus Center.
