Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team grabbed a 71-64 decision over Concordia University Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improves the Cru to 5-6 on the season and 5-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tornados fall to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
UMHB trailed early before using a 17-2 run late in the first half to grab a lead. The Cru held the Tornados scoreless for over three minutes to gain a 32-28 advantage at halftime. Concordia responded with a 10-0 run to start the second half, leading by as many as seven points before the Cru tied it up at 58 with four and a half minutes left to play. UMHB then used a 13-6 offensive surge to secure the victory, including a 3-0 run in the final minute.
Taylor Tucker led four UMHB athletes in double-digits with 16 points, followed by
Jovana Miles with 15,
Macy Moore with 12 and
Alyssa Dean with 11. Miles and Dean led the Cru with 11 rebounds each while
Alisha Mosley added six assists. UMHB out-rebounded the Tornados 50-27 in the match and shot 40.7 percent in the contest.
Tyler Compton was the leading scorer for Concordia with 23 points, followed by Domonique Liddell's 10. Compton accounted for a team-high six rebounds and added five assists. The Tornados shot 43.8 percent in the match.
The Cru will return to action Thursday, January 9
th in a 5:30 p.m. match against the University of Texas at Tyler. UMHB will also host the University of the Ozarks Saturday, January 11
th at 1 p.m.
