Women’s Basketball hands U.T.-Tyler first conference loss

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team handed the University of Texas at Tyler its first loss in American Southwest Conference action with a 77-69 win over the Patriots Thursday evening in Belton. The win improves the Cru to 6-6 on the season and 6-3 in conference play while the Patriots fall to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in ASC action.
 
UMHB quickly gave up an early 2-0 lead and trailed for most of the first half. The Patriots led by as many as nine points before UMHB responded with just under seven minutes left to take a 34-31 lead into halftime. The Patriots opened the second half with an offensive surge but were unable to grab a sizeable lead. UMHB pulled away late with a 7-0 run, leading by as many as 11 points late in the second half. The Cru allowed just 11 points in the last six minutes of the contest to secure the win.  
 
Macy Moore led the Cru with a career-high 28 points, including a perfect six-of-six from beyond the arc. Jovana Miles added 16 points and led the Cru with 13 rebounds, while Alisha Mosley accounted for eight points for the Cru. UMHB overcame a 35-turnover performance, out-rebounding the Patriots 48-28 in the match. UMHB shot 50 percent in the contest and 90 percent from the free throw line.
 
She'Cara Humphrey led the Patriots with 20 points followed closely by Brittany King's 19. King was also the leading rebounder for U.T.-Tyler, accounting for 10 of the team's 25 boards. Danai Woods and Teylor Seals each recorded six assists while Seals also added eight steals. The Patriots shot 38.2 percent in the game and 57.1 percent from the free throw line.
 
The Cru will close a three-game home stint Saturday, January 11th in a 1 p.m. match against the University of the Ozarks.
