Football to host Louisiana College this Saturday

Game Notes

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team plays its only home game on October when the Cru hosts Louisiana College for an American Southwest Conference showdown this Saturday at Crusader Stadium. The two teams will kick off at 1:00 PM on Homecoming Saturday for UMHB.

The Cru comes into Saturday's game with a 5-0 overall record and a 1-0 mark in ASC play. UMHB is ranked second in the country by both the American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com. UMHB is coming off a 56-9 victory over Sul Ross State last Saturday in Alpine and the Cru has outscored its last two opponents by a combined 129-16. Louisiana College is 2-3 on the year and will be playing its ASC opener this Saturday. The Wildcats were off last week after falling to fourth-ranked Wesley College 56-21 two weeks ago. LC's other losses have come to Division I Alcorn State and to nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran University. The Wildcats have also jumped out to leads over UMHB in four of the five meetings between the two teams, so LC should have the Cru's attention.

"They always have good skill guys and have a really big offensive line, and LC also plays good defense and throw the ball around a lot" Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. "We feel like we can continue to improve and play better than we have. We also know that LC will challenge us and give us their very best shot. It is also a concern that they are coming off an open week and have had that extra time to prepare for us."

The Cru leads the all-time series between the two teams 14-0 with one of those wins coming in the NCAA Division III National Championships. This will be the third consecutive meeting between UMHB and Louisiana College to be played in Belton. It will be the 200th game in the 17-year history of Cru football.
