Richardson, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a doubleheader against the University of Texas at Dallas Friday evening in Richardson, earning a 4-3 and 7-5 victory over the Comets. The Cru improved to 10-10 on the season and 9-8 in American Southwest Conference action while the Comets fell to 10-10 overall and 7-10 in conference play.
UTD added two runs in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead in the series' first game before
Kourtney Bevers responded with an RBI single in the top of the fourth, scoring
Janie Neyland.
Leah Brown followed that with an RBI single allowing
Leanne Hinojosa to score and evening the score at 2-2.
Dayton Kunz's RBI single in the top of the fifth gave UMHB a one-run advantage, but the Comets evened it at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single.
Emily Marrs secured the 4-3 win for the Cru with a sacrifice fly allowing
Myranda Hinojosa to score the winning run. Bevers led the Cru with three hits while four other Crusaders added two.
Rebekah Ragsdale earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs on nine hits. She struck out four batters and walked just one. UMHB totaled four runs on 13 hits with no errors. The Comets had three runs on nine hits with two errors.
Myranda Hinojosa gave the Cru an early advantage in the second game with a homerun in the top of the first and a sacrifice fly in the top of the second. Kunz added an RBI single scoring
Janie Neyland in the top of the third for a 3-0 UMHB advantage before the Comets added a run in the bottom of the third. Tori Gomez responded in the top of the fourth with a homerun, driving in three runs for a 6-1 Cru advantage. UTD added four runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-5. Gomez added an insurance run for UMHB in the top of the fifth with an RBI single scoring
Amelia Cluke and giving the Cru a 7-5 victory. Bevers again led the Cru with four hits while Gomez added three.
Haley Parker earned the win for UMHB allowing five runs on eight hits. The Cru totaled seven runs, 15 hits and two errors while the Comets had five runs, eight hits and one error.
UMHB will return to action tomorrow in an 11 a.m. match against U.T.-Dallas in Richardson. The Cru returns home Monday, March 24
th to host Linfield College in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
