Softball sweeps Louisiana College 4-0, 6-4

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept Louisiana College 4-0, 6-4 Friday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 21-12 on the season and 16-10 in American Southwest Conference action while the Wildcats fall to 20-7 overall and 20-6 in conference play.
 
The Cru used a pair of two-run homeruns to grab a 4-0 win on the Wildcats in the first game of the doubleheader. Chandler Henson hit a homerun to right center in the bottom of the second, scoring Dayton Kunz from second base. Myranda Hinojosa followed that with a homerun to left field in the bottom of the fourth, driving in Amelia Cluke from first.  Myranda Hinojosa and Janie Neyland led the Cru with two hits while four other Crusaders recorded one. Rebekah Ragsdale earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts and three hits.  Taylor Leger took the loss for the Wildcats, pitching 3.2 innings with six hits, four runs and two strikeouts. UMHB totaled eight hits and no errors while the Wildcats had three hits and two errors.
 
Courtney Ivey and Kimber Gruehl hit a pair of solo homeruns in the top of the second for a 2-0 Wildcat lead in the second game. Myranda Hinojosa responded in the bottom of the second with a two-RBI single. Janie Neyland followed that with an RBI single of her own before Leah Brown knocked in a three-run homerun to left center field for a 6-2 UMHB lead. Louisiana College responded with a two-run third inning to cut the Cru's lead to two. Neither team was able to generate any additional offense, securing the Cru's 6-4 win. Brown led the Cru with two hits and three RBI while Myranda Hinojosa added two RBI and Janie Neyland drove in one. Kunz and Kourtney Bevers produced two hits and six different Crusaders scored runs for UMHB. Haley Parker earned the win in the circle for UMHB, allowing five hits and striking out three batters.
UMHB totaled six runs on nine hits with two errors while Louisiana College had four runs on five hits with one error.
 
The Cru will return to action tomorrow in a 12 p.m. single game against the Wildcats at Dee Dillon Field.
