Softball defeats Hardin-Simmons 5-0

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team earned its 13th consecutive victory Friday evening, defeating Hardin-Simmons University 5-0 in Belton. The Cru improved to 26-12 on the season and 21-11 in American Southwest Conference play. The Cowgirls dropped to 21-15 overall and 18-13 in league action.
 
Leanne Hinojosa got UMHB on the board in the bottom of the fourth, driving in Kelsey Vann from third base.  UMHB then used a big fifth inning to distance from the Cowgirls. Janie Neyland beat a throw to home off a fielder's choice from Dayton Kunz for one run, followed by an RBI single from Kourtney Bevers, scoring Tori Gomez. Chandler Henson reached base one at-bat later off an error, allowing two more runs to score for a 5-0 Cru lead. Neyland led the Cru with three hits while Vann and Bevers each added two. Vann also led the Cru with two runs. Rebekah Ragsdale earned the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out two batters. UMHB totaled 10 hits and no errors while the Cowgirls had two hits and two errors.
 
The Cru returns to action tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Hardin-Simmons. UMHB will honor the 2014 senior class immediately following the second game.
