Softball falls to East Texas Baptist 6-2

TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a 6-2 contest to East Texas Baptist University in the American Southwest Conference Tournament Friday afternoon in Tyler.  The Cru moves to 29-13 on the season while the Tigers improve to 37-5.

Jayme Perez got East Texas Baptist on the board first with a solo homerun to center field in the top of the first. Dayton Kunz responded for the Cru in the bottom of the third, driving in Janie Neyland off a single over the pitcher's head to tie the game at 1-1. Kourtney Bevers gave the Cru a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring off a wild pitch before the Tigers added three runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-2 lead. East Texas Baptist added two more in the top of the sixth to secure the 6-2 win.
 
Janie Neyland led the Cru with two hits while four other Crusaders added one. Neyland and Bevers each added a run for the Cru while Kunz had the lone RBI. Rebekah Ragsdale took the loss for the Cru, going six innings in the circle. Ragsdale allowed five earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout. UMHB totaled two runs on eight hits with one error while the Tigers had six runs on nine hits with no errors.
 
The Cru returns to action tonight in a 7 p.m. elimination game against Hardin-Simmons University. The winner of that game will advance to play the winner of LeTourneau and Louisiana College on Saturday, May 3rd at 3 p.m.
