Game NotesBelton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will face a familiar opponent in the 2014 home opener for the Cru this Saturday, September 13
th. UMHB will play host to University of Redlands for a 6:00 PM kickoff as the two teams play for the third time in the last 13 months.
The Cru swept a pair of meetings from the Bulldogs last season, claiming a 31-13 victory at Redlands in the season opener and then topping Redlands 35-7 in a rematch in the opening round of the NCAA Division III National Championships. UMHB is off to a 1-0 start to the 2014 season after posting a 43-7 win over Millsaps College last Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi. The Bulldogs will be opening their 2014 campaign with Saturday's game, but Redlands welcomes back 55 letter winners, seven offensive starters and five defensive starters from a team that won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title last season. The Cru leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 3-0, including last year's sweep. UMHB is also looking for improvement from last week's effort and knows it won't be easy against a Redlands program that is awfully familiar with the Cru
"They did an incredible job of adjusting and preparing for what we do between our two meetings last season and the better they get to know us, the tougher it gets," Cru Head Coach
Pete Fredenburg said. "If we don't play better than we did last week, we are going to have our hands full. There is a huge difference between potential and performance and we are in the middle of that process. We are pleased with our talent level, but we have some things that we really need to work on improving."
UMHB will also be hosting Military Appreciation Day on Saturday with all active duty military and immediate families receiving free admission and meals. Members of the military will also be participating in pre-game and halftime festivities during the game.
