SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept dual matches in the opening day of the Trinity Fall Classic Friday in San Antonio, improving the Cru to 8-2 on the season.
UMHB started the day with a three-set sweep of Puget Sound, routing the Loggers 25-15, 25-13, 25-23. Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 10 kills while Cheyenne Dowdey added eight and Kendall Pye had six. Shelby Prather recorded a team-high 14 assists and served a match-high four aces. Defensively for the Cru, Voskuil and Kendra Feldmann each recorded seven digs while Lauren Powell added six. Dowdey recorded four block assists en route to a team-total five blocks. UMHB totaled 33 kills in the match and hit .167 while the Loggers had 23 kills for a .073 hitting percentage.
Linfield was next on UMHB's schedule, with the Cru sweeping the match 25-18, 25-22, 25-11. Natasha Evans led the Cru with seven kills while Dowdey and Powell each added six. Prather recorded 21 assists in the contest while Evans added nine. Feldmann led the Cru defense with 10 kills and Dowdey recorded three solo blocks and six block assists. UMHB totaled 32 kills for a .198 hitting percentage.
UMHB returns to action tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and a 2:30 p.m. match against George Fox University in San Antonio. The Cru opens the 2014 home slate on Tuesday, September 16th in a 6 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University in the Mayborn Campus Center.
