Volleyball splits dual matches at Trinity Fall Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team split dual matches in the opening day of the Trinity Fall Classic Friday in San Antonio, improving the Cru to 9-3 on the season.

 

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps grabbed an early advantage with a 25-21 first-set win. UMHB flipped the script with a 25-21 second-set victory before the Athenas responded with consecutive 25-20, 25-21 victories for the match victory. Bianca Patterson led the Cru with 12 kills while Abby Voskuil added 11. Natasha Evans recorded a match-high 26 assists with Shelby Prather adding 19. Kendra Feldmann and Lauren Powell led UMHB's defense with 19 digs and 17 digs, respectively. UMHB totaled eight team-blocks, led by Cheyenne Dowdey's one solo block and five block assists. The Cru totaled 51 kills for a .199 attack percentage while the Athenas hit 69 kills for a .331 percentage.

 

The Cru responded with a three-set sweep of George Fox University, winning 25-23, 25-13, 25-20. Voskuil led all athletes with a match-high 15 kills en route to a team total 34. Prather led the Cru with 16 assists while Feldmann had a match-high 20 digs. UMHB totaled seven blocks, led by Patterson's one solo block and four block assists. The Cru limited George Fox to just 25 kills for a -.009 hitting percentage.

 

UMHB opens the 2014 home slate on Tuesday, September 16th in a 6 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University in the Mayborn Campus Center.
