Football to host Belhaven this Saturday

Teams face off after 13-year break in series

Game Notes

Belton, Texas – After a 13-year break, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will resume its series with Belhaven University when the two teams square off at Crusader Stadium this Saturday at 1:00 PM. It will mark the first time the two programs have faced off since the Cru topped the Blazers 20-6 in the 2001 season opener in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Cru is coming off a bye week and UMHB is 3-0 entering Saturday's game. The Cru may not have faced Belhaven since 2001, but the UMHB coaching staff is familiar with Blazers Head Coach Hal Mumme. Mumme was the head coach at McMurry University and faced the Cru four times as the Warhawks coach. He may be with a new program this time around, but UMHB coaches know what to expect from his team.

"They do a lot of things we saw him do while he was at McMurry and he is in the process of trying to build the same thing he had going there," Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. "It just takes some time to complete that process. It is always a test when you face a team that throws as much as they do. And they get the ball out so quickly that it is hard to get pressure on them, so we really need to be prepared for a challenge this week."

Belhaven comes into the game with an 0-4 record after falling to Huntingdon College 35-21 last Saturday. The Blazers have led at halftime in three of their four losses this season. Belhaven is transitioning to NCAA Division III play and will become members of the American Southwest Conference once the school completes their process. The series between the two schools is tied 2-2 with UMHB having won the last two meetings.

UMHB enters the contest ranked #3 in the country by the American Football Coaches Association and #4 in the nation by D3football.com. The Cru has a 57-game regular season winning streak, has won 42 straight regular season home contests and has never lost a regular season game at Crusader Stadium.

UMHB will also be hosting the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Game Day Rally and Bell County Church Youth Day at Saturday's game. For more information on parking, traffic flow and game day events, please visit the following link: http://www.umhb.edu/stadium/game-day-information/#directions-parking. Saturday's game will also be broadcast live on K101.7 FM and through the station's web site with the pre-game show starting at 12:30 PM.
