BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor soccer team routed Sul Ross State University 11-0 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 8-3-1 on the season and 5-1 in American Southwest Conference play while the Lobos fell to 2-9 overall and 2-7 in league play.
UMHB jumped to an early lead with goals in the 6
th and 7
th minutes.
Sarah Rempe found
Allison Porter for a one-touch goal before Rempe scored on of her own a minute later for a 2-0 UMHB advantage.
Nicole Burgett scored next giving UMHB a 3-0 advantage in the before Kat Parker scored for a 4-0 lead.
Jessie Simmonds scored in the 33
rd minute and then assisted
Amanda Carlough in the 36
th minute for a 6-0 advantage. Simmonds scored again in the 47
th minute off an assist from Parker for a 7-0 lead.
Danielle Struxness scored next, netting a ball off a corner kick from
Elissa Freberg in the 61
st minute before Freberg scored a minute later off an assist from Kat Parker. Simmonds and
Morgan Prentice rounded out the scoring, giving the Cru an 11-0 victory.
Briana Hester and Porter led the Cru with six shots each while Carlough and Simmonds added five. Simmonds led the Cru with three goals while eight other Crusaders added one. Parker was the team-leader with two assists as UMHB recorded seven as a team.
Courtney Craig earned the win for the Cru, making one save in the shutout victory. UMHB totaled 40 shots with 23 on goal while the Lobos had three shots.
