Volleyball falls to No. 12 Southwestern

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest to No. 12 Southwestern University Friday afternoon in San Antonio. The loss dropped the Cru to 16-9 on the season while the Pirates improved to 27-3 on the year.
 
UMHB dropped the first set 25-23 before grabbing a 25-18 second-set victory to even the match at 1-1. The Pirates responded, winning the next two sets 25-23, 25-21 for the 3-1 victory. Shelby Russell led the Cru with 24 kills while Abby Voskuil added 19 and Natasha Evans had 11. Shelby Prather led the Cru with 58 assists as UMHB hit .311 in the contest. Defensively, Prather led UMHB with 23 digs, while Russell and Jordan Yates added 19. At the net, Cheyenne Dowdey dominated with three solo blocks and three block assists. UMHB totaled 72 kills on 180 total attacks with 16 errors while Southwestern had 67 kills with 12 errors on 193 attacks.
 
UMHB continues the regular season Saturday, October 31st in a 10 a.m. match against Simpson University and a 12:30 p.m. match against tournament-host Trinity University.. UMHB will then play in the 2015 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the West Division, November 5th – 7th on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson.
