SHERMAN, Texas. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team won the 2015 season opener 3-1 over Austin College Tuesday afternoon in Sherman. The Cru opens the season at 1-0 while the Roos open at 0-1.
Austin College grabbed a lead in the first half with a goal from Erica Williams in the 31
st minute. The Roos led 1-0 at halftime before UMHB constructed a three-goal second half to take the 3-1 victory.
Sarah Rempe scored first for the Cru, tying the contest at 1-1 with an assist from
Kathryn Parker in the 63
rd minute. Parker then scored a goal of her own in the 78
th minute followed by an 88
th minute goal from
Briana Hester with a Parker assist.
Hester led the Cru with nine shots while Parker added seven and
Amanda Carlough had four. UMHB outshot the Roos 31-12 in the contest, recording 13 shots on goal.
Courtney Craig earned the win in the net for the Cru, allowing one goal and making five saves in a full 90-minute contest. Parker's game-winning goal was the 11
th of her career, setting a new UMHB career record in that category.
UMHB returns to action Friday, September 11
th in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference match against Hardin-Simmons University at the Cru Sports Plex in Belton.
