Women's Soccer plays Hardin-Simmons to a draw

BELTON, Texas. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team used a come-from-behind second half to tie the Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls 2-2 Friday night in Belton. The Cru improved to 1-0-1 on the season while the Cowgirls moved to 2-1-1.
 
Hardin-Simmons took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute and held that lead until half. Allison Porter scored the equalizer for the Cru, heading a free kick from Briana Hester in for a 1-1 tie. UMHB held that lead until the 72nd minute when Jordan Lara gave the Cowgirls a 2-1 lead. Hardin-Simmons led until the final 20 seconds of the second half when Danielle Struxness found the back of the goal for the Cru and sent the contest into overtime. Neither team was able to score in either overtime period, giving the Cru a 2-2 tie. UMHB had lost all 25 previous meetings with Hardin-Simmons, dating back to the inaugural season of Cru women's soccer in 1998.
 
Briana Hester led the Cru with three shots while five other Crusaders each had one. Courtney Craig played the entire match in the net for the Cru, earning the win with two allowed goals and ten saves. Hardin-Simmons totaled 20 shots in the match putting 12 on goal while the Cru had eight shots with five on goal. UMHB took one corner kick to the Cowgirls' seven with UMHB recording three overtime saves.
 
The Cru continues play tomorrow in a 5:30 p.m. match against Our Lady of the Lake University at the Cru Sports Plex in Belton.
