Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team responded to a tying goal with a break-away score to take the lead as the Cru held on for a 2-1 victory over U.T.-Dallas Friday night in Belton. UMHB improves to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Comets to 5-3-0 overall and 1-1 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB grabbed an early lead when Danielle Struxness scored off a beautiful cross from Kat Parker just 2:13 into the match. It would stay that way into the second half before Jacqueline Kaufman gathered a loose ball in front of the net and hammered it home 3:38 into the second half to tie it 1-1. The Cru answered 18 minutes later as Caitlin Parr chased down a long ball down the field and slipped it past the keeper for the go-ahead goal. UMHB's defense made it stand up from there.
Courtney Craig and Morgan Prentice combined for eight saves in goal for UMHB as each played one half. Both teams finished with 16 shots in the game but the Cru also committed six offsides.
The Cru women will continue their home stand with another conference match on Saturday. UMHB will host Howard Payne for a 5:00 PM start.
