Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team grabbed an early lead and the Cru's defense shut down Howard Payne from there in a 4-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets Saturday evening in Belton. UMHB improves to 5-2-1 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops Howard Payne to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the ASC.
The Cru took a 1-0 lead on Kat Parker's goal just 3:17 into the match. Sarah Rempe added a goal 11 minutes late to stretch the lead to 2-0 and Nicole Burgett put one in the net in the 19th minute to give UMHB a 3-0 lead at halftime. Burgett would add an insurance goal in the second half to provide the final margin.
The Cru outshot Howard Payne 21-2 in the match. Courtney Craig had one save in the first half and Alexandria Andrade played a scoreless second half in goal for UMHB. Kelsie Piland and Nicole Goodwin split the match in net for HPU and recorded three saves apiece.
The Cru women will return to action with a road conference game next weekend. UMHB will take on Concordia Texas in a 5:00 PM ASC match next Saturday in Austin.
