Volleyball goes undefeated in second day of UMHB Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BELTON, Texas –  The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team went 2-0 on the second day of competition at the UMHB Invitational, beating No. 16 Trinity 3-2 and then sweeping Willamette in three sets.
 
UMHB won the opening match of the day 3-2 over No. 16 Trinity University. The Cru won the first set 25-15 before falling 27-25, 25-20 in the next two sets. UMHB then forced a comeback, battling out for the fourth set 28-26 and taking the final set 15-9. Shelby Russell led the Cru with 17 kills while Sarah Paolini had 14 and Natasha Evans added 10. Shelby Prather helped the Cru to a match .316 hitting percentage with 38 assists in the match. Defensively, Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 27 digs while Prather added 22 and Russell had 12. At the line, Evans led the Cru with six blocks while Maddie Frerich added five and Cheyenne Dowdey had four. UMHB totaled 59 kills on 152 total attacks with 84 digs and 15.5 team blocks while the Tigers had 64 kills on 190 total attacks with 82 digs and seven team blocks.
 
The Cru then took control of a three-set match over Willamette, beating the Bearcats 25-14, 25-20, 25-13. Paolini led the Cru with 12 kills in the match while Evans and Russell each added eight. Prather was again the leading setter, recording 27 assists as the Cru hit .340 in the match. Defensively, Voskuil led the Cru with 20 digs while Evans added 15 and Prather had 11. Cheyenne Dowdey had a team-high five block assists as UMHB rejected seven at the line. The Cru hit 42 kills on 100 attempts while Willamette had 23 kills on 88 total attacks.
 
UMHB returns to action next weekend at the Colorado College Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Cru opens that tournament on Friday, September 11th with a 1 p.m. (MT) match against Bluffton University, then plays the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 5 p.m. (MT).
