ALPINE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team beat Sul Ross State University 4-1 Thursday afternoon in Alpine. The win improved the Cru to 9-3-1 on the season and 6-1-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 5-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in league play.
Sarah Kopp scored the go-ahead goal in the ninth minute to give UMHB the 1-0 lead.
Jessie Simmonds added an insurance goal in the 43
rd minute to put UMHB 2-0 before
Sarah Rempe added one more in the 58
th minute. Sul Ross State's Lauren Ebbs then gave the Lobos a goal midway through the second half before
Caitlyn Shaughnessy scored UMHB's fourth and final goal in the 79
th minute, finalizing the 4-1 win.
Kat Parker led the Cru with seven shots followed by
Briana Hester and
Miranda Aleman with five. Simmonds scored the game-winning goal for UMHB while
Allison Porter added one assist. The Cru outshot the Lobos 36-7 in the contest, putting 22 shots on goal.
Courtney Craig earned the win for UMHB with one goal allowed and five saves in a full 90-minute contest. Ashlie Rojas took the loss for Sul Ross State, allowing four goals with 18 saves.
UMHB returns to action Friday, October 21
st in a 5 p.m. match against LeTourneau University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
