BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team beat Sul Ross State University 3-1 in the 2016 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improved UMHB to 13-3-2 on the season while Sul Ross State ended their season 6-9-1.
Lauren Ebbs gave Sul Ross State a lead in the ninth minute, putting the Lobos up 1-0.
Allison Porter scored the equalizer in the 17
th minute off an assist from Kat Parker to even the match at 1-1 before
Caitlyn Shaughnessy scored the go-ahead goal in the 30
th minute. Porter scored again 20 seconds into the second half to put UMHB up 3-1. Parker led UMHB with nine shots followed by Porter with five and
Briana Hester with four. Parker also led the Cru with two assists. UMHB outshot the Lobos 29-2 in the match, putting 14 shots on goal.
Courtney Craig earned the win for the Cru with one save in a full 90 minutes of action while Ashlie Rojas took the loss for the Lobos, making 11 saves with three goals allowed.
UMHB will advance to face UT Tyler in the tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4
th at 2 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 6
th at 1 p.m. The tournament semifinals and finals are hosted by Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. The winner of the tournament will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship to be announced on Monday, Nov. 7
th.
