BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team beat Rust College 91-46 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved UMHB to 6-2 on the season while the Bearcats fell to 0-7.
UMHB used an 8-2 run to jump to a 11-5 run halfway through the first quarter before Rust College went on an 8-2 run of their own to tie the quarter at 13 points each. UMHB then went on a 14-3 run to end the second quarter, holding a 34-23 lead at the half. The Cru held a significant lead throughout the second half, outscoring Rust 29-9 in the third quarter and 28-14 in the fourth for the 91-46 victory.
Kendall Rollins led UMHB with 20 points while
Tashyra Banks had 12 and
Kendra Wynn and
Meghan Turner each added nine.
Destini Oakmon had a team-high five assists followed by Turner with four and
Jesslyn Poole with three. Defensively, Wynn led UMHB with 10 rebounds followed by
Antoinette Iroko with eight and
Alicia Blackwell with seven. UMHB out-rebounded the Bearcats 62-24, bringing down 36 defensive boards. The Cru shot 49.3 percent in the contest, 22.2 percent from beyond the arc and 48 percent from the free throw line, adding 22 assists, four blocks and 14 steals.
Jasmine Golden led the Bearcats with 15 points followed by Mar'Shea Lewis with 13 and Jasmine Pitchford with 10. Golden had a team-high six rebounds as the Bearcats brought down five offensive and 19 defensive boards. Rust shot 32 percent in the contest, 26.9 percent from beyond the arc and 46.7 percent from the free throw line. The Bearcats totaled nine assists, one block and nine steals.
UMHB returns to action on Monday, December 12
th in a 7 p.m. match at Southwestern University in Georgetown.
