Women's Basketball tops Louisiana College 99-84

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team used a huge edge on the offensive glass as the Cru topped Louisiana College 99-84 Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the ASC on the year.

 

The game was back-and-forth through the first half before the Cru was able to open up a 47-43 halftime lead. The Wildcats pulled to within two at 48-46 with 9:30 left in the third period before UMHB opened it up. A 16-2 run gave the Cru a 16-point lead and UMHB led by as many as 19 in the third quarter. The lead would grow to as many as 22 points in the fourth as the Cru cruised to the victory.

 

Tashyra Banks led a balanced scoring attack for UMHB with 18 points and she grabbed 13 rebounds, Megan Turner added 17 points and Kendra Wynn added 16 points and 13 rebounds. Ten of Wynn's boards came on the offensive end. Kendall Rollins had 12, Jonelle Smith scored 11 and Haven Neal chipped in 10 points for the Cru. UMHB shot 61 percent from the field in the third quarter and hit 40 percent for the game, The Cru grabbed 31 offensive rebounds and out rebounded the Wildcats 66-40 in the contest.

 

Brooke Jones had 18 points to lead Louisiana College and RyDeja McQuarn added 16 more. Kristen Breaux chipped in 14 points and Karlee Teddlie scored 11. The Wildcats shot 43 percent from the floor as a team and turned the ball over 19 times in the loss.

 

The Cru women will return to action with a road game at Schreiner University Tuesday night in Kerrville. UMHB will close out the calendar year with an exhibition game at Texas A&M-International on December 29th.
