BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Southwestern University Thursday evening in Belton, giving the Cru a 1-0 season record and opening the Pirates at 0-1.
Neither team was able to score in the first half, sending the contest scoreless into halftime. Kat Parker scored UMHB's only goal in the 69th minute, scoring off a turnover to give the Cru a 1-0 lead. UMHB held off the Pirates' offense, helping the Cru a 1-0 season-opening victory.
Parker led the Cru with six shots followed by
Allison Porter with five. UMHB outshot the Pirates 24-6 in the match, putting 15 shots on goal to the Pirates' three. The Cru had 14 first half shots and 10 in the second, taking four corner kicks in the contest.
Courtney Craig earned the win in the goal for the Cru, recording her first shutout and win of the season with three saves.
The Cru returns to action Saturday, September 3
rd in a 1 p.m. match against Pacific Lutheran University on the campus of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
