KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Schreiner University 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Kerrville. The win improved the Cru to 4-1 on the season while the Mountaineers fell to 1-3-1.
Case Carnes scored the go-ahead goal for UMHB in the 8th minute with an assist from
Logan Keeler.
McKenna Cook followed that with a goal in the 32nd minute for a 2-0 UMHB lead. Alan Aviles converted a penalty kick for Schreiner in the 41
st minute cutting UMHB's lead to 2-1. Neither team scored in the second half, giving the Cru a one-goal victory.
Cook led the Cru with seven shots followed by Keeler, Carnes,
Caleb Latson and
Sean Diamond with two shots each. UMHB outshot the Mountaineers 17-9 in the contest, putting 10 shots on goal.
Javier Zaragoza earned the win for UMHB, playing a full 90 minutes with one allowed goal and two saves. Blake Lawson and Brandon Anselmi split time in goal for Schreiner. Lawson allowed two goals with three saves while Anselmi made five saves.
The Cru returns to action Tuesday, September 13
th in a 7 p.m. match against Austin College at the Cru Sports Plex in Belton.
