Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team controlled the first half and then held off a Louisiana College second-half rally as the Cru posted a 3-1 win over the Wildcats Friday afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 5-2 overall and goes to 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Wildcats to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the ASC.
Logan Keeler's header off a cross from Martin Lopez in the tenth minute gave the Cru a 1-0 lead. Case Carnes added a header off an assist from Caleb Latson just two minutes later. Josh Bruton provided some more breathing room off a Logan Aucoin assist with just 18 seconds left in the first half to make it 3-0 UMHB at halftime. The Cru outshot LC 14-0 in the first half. The Wildcats finally broke through when Phay San connected off an assist from Jacob Johnson in the 89th minute to account for the final score. Javier Zaragoza and Travis Aday combined for the win in goal for UMHB. Nathan Gautreaux posted nine saves in goal for LC. The Cru outshot the Wildcats 30-2 in the victory.
The UMHB men return to action with a 4:30 PM home match against Belhaven University on Saturday. That match does not count in the ASC standings.
