Men’s Soccer beats Howard Payne 6-0; McKenna Cook sets new ASC record

BROWNWOOD, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer player McKenna Cook set a new American Southwest Conference record en route to a 6-0 win for the Cru over Howard Payne Thursday evening in Brownwood. The win improved the Cru to 6-3-0 on the season with a 2-0-0 record in league play while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
 
Sean Diamond scored the game-winning goal in the 16th minute off an assist from Caleb Vandergriff. Cook followed that 45 seconds later, finding the back of the net with an assist from Case Carnes to put the Cru up 2-0.  UMHB scored two more times in the first half with a 35th minute goal from Jake Figary and a 44th minute converted penalty kick by Logan Keeler. The Cru held the 4-0 lead until the 49th minute when McKenna Cook scored twice in 16 seconds, setting a new ASC record for the fastest two consecutive goals scored. Cook's first goal came at 48:39 with a double assist from Carnes and Caleb Almanza. He scored again at the 48:55 mark with another assist from Almanza, giving the Cru a 6-0 advantage and win.
 
Amani Colbert led the Cru with four shots followed by Cook and Keeler with three each. UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 22-3 in the contest, putting 11 shots on goal. Travis Aday and Javier Zaragoza split time in the goal in UMHB's shutout win. Nicholas Panameno played the entire game for the Yellow Jackets, allowing six goals with five saves.
 
University of the Ozarks' Matt Weaver held the previous record for fastest two consecutive goals, scoring twice in 24 seconds against Hendrix College in 2013. UMHB continues play on Saturday, September 24th in a 7:30 p.m. match at the University of Texas at Dallas.
