Men’s Soccer edged by U.T.-Dallas in overtime

RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team was edged 2-1 by the University of Texas at Dallas in an overtime match in Richardson Saturday night. The win improved the Comets to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cru fell to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.
 
The contest went into halftime scoreless before suffering a weather delay during the break that delayed play resumption for 98 minutes. The Comets scored first after the first half and long delay when Connor Crabtree found Alfredo Kaegi for the 1-0 lead. Case Carnes scored the equalizer for UMHB in the 81st minute off an assist from Daniel Santa to tie the game at one goal apiece. The contest remained tied until the 7th minute of overtime play when U.T.-Dallas's Stephen Melchor scored the game-winning goal off a Comet corner kick. Carnes and Caleb Vandergriff led the Cru with three shots each while Steven Dang and Santa each added two. UMHB totaled 12 shots with five on goal. Javier Zaragoza took the loss for UMHB, allowing two goals and making two saves in over 96 minutes of play. Joseph Weber earned the win for UTD, allowing one goal with four saves.


UMHB continues play on Saturday, October 1st in a 7:30 p.m. match against Concordia University Texas at the Cru SportsPlex in Belton.
