Volleyball sweeps dual matches at ASC Crossover II

ABILENE, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept dual matches at the American Southwest Conference Crossover II, beating Belhaven University and East Texas Baptist University in straight sets. The wins improved the Cru to 20-2 on the season and 12-1 in American Southwest Conference action.

UMHB opened the day with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-13 win over Belhaven University. Miranda Klein led the Cru with 10 kills while Corinne Novak added eight. Natasha Evans recorded a match-high 32 assists, helping the Cru to a .238 hitting percentage. Defensively, Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 13 digs while Novak added 10 and Natasha Evans had nine. Klein, Sarah Paolini and Maddie Frerich were the defensive leaders at the net, each recording three blocks. UMHB totaled 40 kills on 105 total attacks, adding eight service aces and 55 digs. The Blazers ended the match with a .107 percentage, hitting 25 kills on 103 attacks. Belhaven added four aces, three blocks and 46 digs.

The Cru earned a 3-0 win over East Texas Baptist University with straight 25-22,25-12, 29-17 set wins. Klein led the Cru with 11 kills followed by Frerich with eight. Natasha Evans was the assist leader again with 29 in three sets. Defensively, Klein led with 10 digs followed by Madison Welch with nine and Haleigh Evans with eight. UMHB totaled 37 kills on 120 attacks, adding six aces, 49 digs and five team blocks. East Texas Baptist totaled 42 kills on 127 attacks, adding 58 digs and eight team blocks.

UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 14th in a 3 p.m. match against the University of Texas at Tyler in Abilene.
