BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team clinched the American Southwest Conference West Division title with a sweep of Concordia University Texas Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 22-2 on the season and 14-1 in ASC play while the Tornados fell to 13-9 overall and 10-4 in conference action.
UMHB commanded the first set 25-16 but trailed early in the second.
Corinne Novak helped the Cru pull away, serving seven consecutive points to put UMHB up by five midway through. UMHB took that set 25-20 then won the third set 25-21, securing the 3-0 win and division title.
Miranda Klein led the Cru with 14 kills while Novak added 10. UMHB totaled 42 kills on 97 attacks for a .309 percentage.
Natasha Evans anchored UMHB's offense with 34 assists in the match. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led with 21 digs followed by
Natasha Evans with 12.
Maddie Frerich was the leader at the net, recording three solo blocks and two block assists. UMHB's defense totaled 59 digs and six team blocks, limiting the Tornados to just 33 kills and a .130 hitting percentage.
The Cru returns to action on Friday, October 20
th in a 6 p.m. rematch against the Tornados in Austin.
