BELTON, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team dominated Howard Payne University, beating the Yellow Jackets 5-0 Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 9-1-1 on the season and 6-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action while Howard Payne fell to 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-0 in league play.
Sarah Rempe opened scoring for the Cru, giving UMHB a 1-0 lead in the 32
nd minute off a pair of deflected UMHB shots.
Sydney Rangel followed that in the 34
th minute, scoring off a penalty kick in the bottom left corner to put the Cru up 2-0. UMHB held that lead until the 54
th minute when
Taylor Marques scored off an assist from
Sarah Rempe to put UMHB up 3-0.
Elissa Freberg was the next Crusader to score, netting back-to-back goals in the 72
nd minute and 75
th minute for a 5-0 lead.
Sarah Rempe led the Cru with nine shots while
Chelsea Graham added six and
Elissa Freberg and
Caitlyn Shaughnessy each added four. UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 33-2 in the contest, putting 19 shots on goal. The Cru did not allow a shot in the second half and took 10 corner kicks to Howard Payne's one.
Emmy McMaude earned the win for UMHB, making one save. Nicole Goodwin took the loss for Howard Payne, allowing five goals with 13 saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 7
th in a 5 p.m. match against UT Dallas at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
