BELTON, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept dual matches Friday evening in Belton, falling 3-1 to No. 3 Trinity University before sweeping Sul Ross State. The Cru improved to 16-2 overall and 8-1 in American Southwest Conference. Trinity moved to 18-3 overall while Sul Ross finished at 2-19 and 0-10 in league play.
Against Trinity, UMHB dropped the first set 25-14 before beating the Tigers 25-22 in the second. Trinity then took the final two sets 25-23, 23-17.
Miranda Klein led the Cru with 16 kills while
Corinne Novak added 10 and
Sarah Paolini had nine.
Natasha Evans totaled 40 assists as UMHB hit .197 in the contest. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 25 digs followed by
Natasha Evans with 12.
Maddie Frerich and Paolini were UMHB's leading blockers, recording four blocks each. UMHB totaled 45 kills on 137 attacks, adding 42 assists, 68 digs and eight team blocks. The Tigers had 58 kills on 145 attacks with 72 digs and 10 service aces.
UMHB took the Lobos in straight 25-10, 25-8, 25-19 sets.
Madison Welch led the Cru with eight kills while
Sydney Stolz added seven and
Corinne Novak had six. UMHB hit 42 kills on 99 attacks for a .343 hitting percentage.
Natasha Evans led all athletes with 32 assists in the match. Defensively,
Madison Welch and
Haleigh Evans led with 13 digs, followed by
Natasha Evans with 11.
Sydney Stolz led the defensive efforts at the net, recording three blocks. UMHB totaled 60 digs and seven team blocks, limiting the Lobos to 17 kills.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 7
th in a 2 p.m. match against Howard Payne University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
