Volleyball opens play in ASC Championship Tournament on Thursday

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team opens postseason play in the 2017 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday, November 2nd in Richardson. UT Dallas won the East Division and right to host the 2017 tournament, which will run from Thursday, Nov. 2nd to Saturday, November 4th in Richardson.
 
UMHB will compete as the No. 1 seed in the West Division and have a first-round bye. Tournament play begins on Thursday, November 2nd at 12 p.m. with East Division No. 2 seed UT Tyler playing West Division No. 3 seed Hardin-Simmons. UMHB will play the winner of that contest at 5 p.m. on Thursday.  West Division No. 2 Concordia Texas and East Division No. 3 East Texas Baptist will play an opening-round match at 2:30 p.m. The championship match will be played on Saturday, November 4th at 2 p.m. with an if-needed game to follow.
 
Head Coach Rob Frost returns nine members from last year's squad who competed in the 2016 ASC Volleyball Championship match. Natasha Evans, Miranda Klein and Sarah Paolini all earned All-ASC honors and First Team All-West Division honors this season. Evans is the lone senior on the 2017 roster and earned West Division MVP this year. Maddie Frerich and Haleigh Evans also had all-conference seasons in 2017.
 
Frost also welcome a solid group of newcomers, led by West Division Freshman of the Year Corinne Novak. Novak also earned All-ASC and First Team All-West Division honors.
