Women’s Soccer falls to Hardin-Simmons, earns first Runner-Up title in program history.

ABILENE Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned the programs first ASC Runner-Up title after falling to Hardin-Simmons University 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Abilene in the 2017 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
 
UMHB qualified for the program's first ever championship match with a quarterfinal win over Concordia Texas and a semifinal win over UT Dallas. The Cru competed as the No. 2 seed with Hardin-Simmons earning the top seed and right to host the 2017 tournament. Hardin-Simmons earned their 15th consecutive ASC title with the win.
 
Evan Pipkin gave the Cowgirls a lead in the 25th minute off an assist from Kenne Kessler. Kessler added an insurance goal for Hardin-Simmons in the 40th minute, scoring off an assist from Tori Waters for the 2-0 halftime lead. The Cowgirls added one more goal in the 53rd minute to secure the 3-0 victory. Hardin-Simmons outshot the Cru 17-6 in the contest, putting eight shots on goal. Emmy McMaude took the loss for the Cru, making five saves with three goals allowed.
 
UMHB ends the season at 16-3-1 with a new program records for wins in a season and first appearance in an ASC championship. Sarah Rempe, Kristen Schultz and Caitlyn Shaughnessy were all named to the 2017 ASC All-Tournament Team. Hardin-Simmons earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The NCAA bracket will be announced on Monday, November 6th in a 12 p.m. broadcast on NCAA.com. Quarterfinal rounds will be played November 11th -12th.
