Women’s Basketball routs Southwestern 68-50

BELTON, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team routed Southwestern University 68-50 Sunday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 6-2 on the season while the Pirates fell to 2-5.  
 
UMHB opened the contest with a 10-0 run before the Pirates finally found the net with 7:12 left in the first quarter. UMHB led the first by as many as 12 points in the quarter and ended the first up 20-10. The Cru maintained a substantial lead throughout the second quarter and ended the half with an eight-point advantage. Kendall Rollins led the Cru with 13 points while Kelsey Van Pelt and Haven Neal each added six in the first half.
 
The Cru opened the third quarter on a 5-0 run and limited the Pirates to just 10 points in that quarter. UMHB did not trail once in the 18-point victory. Kendall Rollins led the Cru with 20 points while Kelsey Van Pelt added 11 and Haven Neal had nine. Defensively, Ashley Caldwell led with nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
 
Zhazze Brown led the Pirates with 12 points while Cecily Woolfolk added 7. UMHB shot 34.7 percent in the contest, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 50 percent from the free-throw line. The Pirates shot 30.4 percent in the contest, 20 percent from the three-point line and 81.3 percent in free throws.
 
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, December 14th in a 5:30 p.m. match at University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. The Cru returns home for a 5 p.m. contest on Monday, December 18th in the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
