BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team fell to No. 4 East Texas Baptist University 18-11 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Tigers to 11-0 on the season and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cru fell to 9-5 overall and 4-5 in league play.
ETBU opened a game with a three-run first inning. Jayme Perez drove in Lindsey Vasquez with an RBI single before Lacey Lindsey hit a home run to score Perez.
Cori Drake responded for UMHB in the bottom of the first, slamming a game-tying home run over the centerfield wall to score
Kasi Cummings and
Linsey Tomlinson. ETBU added four more runs in the top of the third with RBI from Linzie Lewis, Gabby Gonzales and Megan Gardner.

Avery Kelly scored on an error. The Tigers added two more runs in the top of the third inning to lead the Cru by four runs but UMHB recorded a three-run fifth inning to cut the lead to just one. Drake hit an RBI double to score Tomlinson then
Karley Free drove in Dawson and Drake with an RBI single. ETBU again hit an offensive surge in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five runs off two hits for a 14-8 lead. Drake again responded for the Cru, blasting a two-RBI home run over the centerfield wall to cut the Tiger lead to just four runs. ETBU scored four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to lead by eight.
Kourtney Cummings scored the final run for the Crusaders, slamming a home run over the left field wall.
Haley Parker took the loss for UMHB, pitching 3.1 innings with eight hits and 10 runs allowed.
Karen Tennis and
CeCe Darilek both pitched in relief of Parker. Rocki Tello opened the game in the circle for the Tigers, pitching 1.1 innings with three runs on three hits. Jordan Anderson pitched 5.2 innings in relief of Tello, allowing eight runs on 10 hits. Dawson, Free and Drake led the Cru with three hits each while Drake recorded a team-high six RBI. UMHB totaled 11 runs on 13 hits with four errors while the Tigers had 18 runs on 16 hits with one error.
The Cru returns to action with a road series at No. 1 UT Tyler. UMHB opens the series with a 6 p.m. single game on Friday, March 3
rd and concludes with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 4
th.
