BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team opened their 2017 campaign with a 5-1 in Friday evening in Georgetown.
Taylor Marques opened the contest with a goal in the 8
th minute off an assist from
Caitlyn Shaughnessy before the Pirates scored the equalizer off a penalty kick just under a minute later. Shaughnessy then put the Cru up 1-0 with an unassisted goal in the 10
th minute. UMHB held that lead until the 21
st minute when Marques scored again off a deflected ball from
Madison Link to put the Cru up 3-1 at the half. UMHB held that lead until the 69
th minute when Link and
Chelsea Graham scored back-to-back goals 17 seconds apart to secure the 5-1 UMHB win.
Sarah Rempe led the Cru with seven shots while Link and Graham each added four. Marques was the leader with two goals while Shaughnessy, Link and Rempe each added an assist.
Cassidi Musser and
Emmy McMaude split time in the net for the Cru. Musser gave up one penalty-kick goal as the Cru defense allowed just four shots in the contest. Kylie Hunt was the goalkeeper for the Pirate, making eight saves and allowing five goals.
The Cru returns to action on Friday, September 8
th in a 2 p.m. match against Schreiner University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
