ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fell 3-0 to Hardin-Simmons University Tuesday evening in Abilene. The loss dropped the Cru to 8-1 on the season and 0-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls improved to 3-6 on the season and 1-0 in league action.
The Cowgirls used a 6-1 run to gain a five-point lead on the Cru midway through the first set, then finished strong with a 6-3 run to win the first set 25-22. Hardin-Simmons opened the second set with five consecutive points and did not trail again, winning the second and third sets 25-22, 25-17.
Sarah Paolini led the Cru with 12 kills while
Corinne Novak added eight and
Maddie Frerich had five. UMHB hit .126 in the contest with 41 kills on 127 attacks.
Natasha Evans anchored the Cru offense with 31 assists. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 17 digs, followed by
Natasha Evans and
Madison Welch with six.
Sydney Stolz was the defensive leader at the net, totaling three blocks.
UMHB returns to action on Friday in a 5 p.m. match at Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
