BROWNWOOD, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team defeated Howard Payne University 3-1 Friday evening in Brownwood. The Cru improved to 9-2 on the season and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in league play.
UMHB opened the match with a 25-14 win before falling 25-17 in the second set. The Cru then won consecutive 25-22, 25-23 sets for the 3-1 victory.
Sarah Paolini and
Miranda Klein led the Cru with 15 kills each while
Corinne Novak added 10. UMHB totaled 54 kills for a .187 percentage.
Natasha Evans was the anchor for the Cru offense, recording 38 assists. Defensively, Evans led with 21 digs while
Haleigh Evans added 12.
Maddie Frerich and
Natasha Evans each added three blocks en route to a team-total of six. Howard Payne was limited to 36 kills for a .099 percentage, adding 32 assists and 52 digs.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 16
th in a 1 p.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
