Women’s Soccer beats LeTourneau in double overtime

LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team defeated LeTourneau University 2-1 in a double-overtime match Thursday evening in Longview. The win improved the Cru to 4-1 on the season and opened them at 1-0 in American Southwest Conference action. The YellowJackets fell to 4-2 overall with a 0-1 record in conference play.
 
LeTourneau grabbed an early lead on the Cru when Keely Hayden scored off an assist from JoLynn O'Kelley in the 11th minute. The Yellow Jackets held that lead until the 63rd minute when the LeTourneau defense scored an own-goal off a corner kick from UMHBs' Sarah Rempe. Neither team scored again until the second overtime when Caitlyn Shaughnessy netted the golden goal for UMHB, taking an unassisted shot in the 105th minute for the 2-1 win.
 
Shaughnessy led the Cru with six shots while Rempe and Bailey Aleman each added four. UMHB totaled 23 shots in the contest, putting 12 on goal. Hayden, Kelli Sonnier and Rebekah Stevenson each led the YellowJackets with two shots as LeTourneau totaled eight shots with five on goal. Emmy McMaude earned the win for the Cru, making four saves with one goal allowed in just more than 104 minutes of play. Carrye Funk took the loss for the YellowJackets, making 10 saves with two goals allowed in the full contest. UMHB took nine corner kicks to the YellowJackets' one and outshot LeTourneau 4-2 in overtime.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 16th in a 5 p.m. match at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
