LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a pair of sweeps in the ASC Crossover I today in Longview, beating Louisiana College and LeTourneau University. UMHB improved to 13-1 on the season and 5-1 in American Southwest Conference action with the wins.
UMHB opened the day with a dominating 3-0 win over Louisiana College. The Cru took the Wildcats in straight sets of 25-18, 25-7, 25-10.
Corinne Novak led the Cru with nine kills while
Madison Welch added eight. UMHB totaled 43 kills with 37 assists coming from
Natasha Evans. UMHB's defense was led by
Haleigh Evans with 16 digs, followed by
Natasha Evans with eight. The Cru totaled 42 kills on 83 attacks for a .386 hitting percentage, adding 39 assists, seven service aces and 38 digs. Louisiana College had 19 kills on 77 assists for a .013 hitting percentage, adding 17 assists, 24 kills and one team block.
The Cru took the second match of the day in similar fashion, beating crossover-host LeTourneau 25-10, 25-13, 25-13.
Maddie Frerich and
Miranda Klein led the Cru with nine kills each while Novak added eight and Welch had six.
Natasha Evans again anchored the Cru offense with 31 assists while
Haleigh Evans was the defensive leader with 19 digs. UMHB totaled 39 digs on 106 assists for a .283 hitting percentage, adding 37 assists, 62 digs and five team blocks. The YellowJackets had 19 kills on 112 total attacks for a -.062 hitting percentage, adding 18 assists, 52 digs and six service aces.
UMHB returns to action, closing Crossover I play on Saturday, September 23
rd in a 12:30 p.m. match against the University of Texas at Dallas.
