BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team edged the University of Texas at Tyler 1-0 Saturday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 6-1-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action. The Patriots dropped to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Neither team was able to score until the 93
rd minute of play when
Elissa Freberg scored the golden goal off an assist from
Caitlyn Shaughnessy to give UMHB the 1-0 win. Shaughnessy and
Chelsea Graham led the Cru with four shots each while Freberg,
Sarah Rempe and
Madison Link each added two. UMHB outshot the Patriots 15-9 in the match, putting 12 shots on goal. UT Tyler was not able to record a shot on goal and did not get a shot off in the overtime period.
Emmy McMaude earned the win in the goal for UMHB while Emily Hurley took the loss for the Patriots.
The win marked the first time since 2005 the Cru beat the Patriots and the first home win of the series for UMHB. The Cru returns to action on Thursday, September 28
th in a 5 p.m. match at Louisiana College in Pineville.
