JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team beat Belhaven University 4-0 Saturday afternoon in Jackson. The win moves the Cru to 8-1-1 on the season and 5-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action. The Blazers fall to 2-7-1 overall and 1-4-0 in league play with the loss.
Caitlyn Shaughnessy scored the game-winning goal in the fifth minute off an assist from Madison Link. Link added an insurance goal in the ninth minute to put the Cru up 2-0. Shaughnessy responded ten seconds into the second period with another goal, followed by a Taylor Marques goal in the 67th minute.
Shaughnessy, Marques and Brook Tatsch led the Cru with three shots each as UMHB outshot the Blazers 19-6 in the contest. UMHB put 11 shots on goal and limited Belhaven to just two shots on frame. Emmy McMaude earned the win for UMHB, playing 68 minutes in the goal with two saves. Michaela Register played the remaining 22 minutes for the Cru. Noelle Hill took the loss for Belhaven, allowing one goal with four saves before Alexis McDonald entered the game as Belhaven's goalkeeper. McDonald allowed three goals and made three saves.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 5th in a 5 p.m. contest against Howard Payne University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
