TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept a pair of East Division opponents Saturday in Tyler, beating both East Texas Baptist University and LeTourneau University. UMHB improved to 19-2 overall and 13-0 in American Southwest Conference action with the wins. The Cru also clinched the ASC West Division title and right to host the 2018 ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament.
UMHB opened the day with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 win over East Texas Baptist University.
Sarah Paolini led the Cru with 15 kills while
Corinne Novak added 13. UMHB hit .237 in the match, powered by
Cory Jo Martin's 36 assists.
Jenna Gillean led the Cru with 22 digs while Martin added 19,
Haleigh Evans recorded 16 and
Miranda Klein had 15. UMHB totaled 55 kills on 156 attacks with 86 digs and seven team blocks.
The Cru followed that with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-9 sweep of LeTourneau University. Gillean led with 15 kills while Paolini added 10 and Klein had nine. UMHB hit .298 in the match with Martin assisting 32 of UMHB's 48 kills. Evans was the defensive leader with 30 digs while Martin added 12. Paolini led defensive efforts at the net, going up for six blocks.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, October 16
th in a 6 p.m. match at Austin College.
