Women’s Soccer beats Howard Payne 2-0

BELTON, Texas   – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Howard Payne University Saturday afternoon in Brownwood. The win improved the Cru to 7-3-1 overall and 6-1 in American Southwest Conference action while Yellow Jackets fell to 2-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.
 
The first half played scoreless with UMHB outshooting the Yellow Jackets 10-2. Grace Greenly broke the drought for the Cru in the 64th minute, scoring off an assist from Emily Blaettner for a 1-0 lead. Elissa Freberg added an insurance goal for the Cru two minutes later off an assist from Katie Cagle to give UMHB the 2-0 advantage.
 
Madison Link led the Cru with seven shots while Graham added six. UMHB totaled 25 shots, putting 15 on goal. Emmy McMaude earned the win in the net for UMHB, making one save in the full 90-minute shutout. Delaney Castor took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, giving up two goals and making 13 saves.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 13th in a 5 p.m. match against Concordia University Texas at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
