GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-2 win over Southwestern University Saturday afternoon in Georgetown. The win improved the Cru to 16-1 overall while the Pirates moved to 9-9.
UMHB and the Pirates exchanged opening sets with the Pirates taking a 25-19 win in the first and UMHB cruising to a 25-11 win in the second. Southwestern took the lead with a 25-23 third set before the Cru earned back-to-back wins in the fourth and fifth.
Corinne Novak led the Cru with 15 kills while
Jenna Gillean added 14 and
Sarah Paolini had 12. UMHB totaled 65 kills in the match, hitting .275 on 167 attacks.
Cory Jo Martin anchored UMHB's offense with 41 assists while
Miranda Klein added 16. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans and Klein led with 24 digs while Martin added 14. Paolini led the attack at the net, going up for six blocks en route to a team-total nine.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, October 9
th in a 6 p.m. match against McMurry University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
