RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Concordia University Texas 2-1 Friday evening in Richardson, advancing to the championship match of the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament with the win.
Tyler Childs opened scoring in the 23
rd minute, hitting in a rebounded shot from
Patrick Roach for a 1-0 UMHB lead. The Cru held that lead until the 68
th minute when Omar Aguirre scored off a free kick to even the contest at one.
Martin Lopez converted a penalty kick in the 78
th minute to seal the 2-1 win for UMHB. Lopez led the Cru with four shots as UMHB put six of their 10 shots on frame. Concordia Texas took a game-total 13 shots with three on mark.
Travis Aday earned the win in the goal for UMHB, making two saves with one goal allowed. Rob Oakley took the loss for the Tornados, allowing two goals with four saves.
UMHB advances to the championship match of the 2018 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament and will face tournament-host UT Dallas in a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, November 4th in Richardson. More information about the tournament is available at cruathletics.com.
