BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team opened their 2018 season with a 3-0 win over Southwestern University Friday night in Belton.
Madison Link gave the Cru a lead in the 18
th minute, sinking a cross from
Chelsea Graham into the top left corner for a 1-0 lead.
Taylor Marques added an insurance goal in the 33
rd minute, scoring off a blocked shot from
Emily Blaettner. The Pirates pushed late and had a good look offensively but
Marcella Lancon had a diving save in the 75
th minute to preserve the shutout.
Rachel Bloom found
Brooke Tatsch for the Cru's third goal in the 78
th minute to secure UMHB's 3-0 lead.
Chelsea Graham led the Cru with five shots followed by Marques with four. UMHB totaled 26 shots, putting 16 on goal. The Cru defense limited the Pirates to just one shot in the contest.
Emmy McMaude and
Marcella Lancon split time in the net for the Cru.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 1
st in a 5 p.m. match against Texas Lutheran University at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
