BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team rallied from an early deficit to play Texas Lutheran University to a 1-1 double-overtime draw Saturday evening in Belton. The tie moved both teams to 1-0-1 on the season.
Raquel Morris put the Bulldogs up in the 4
th minute, heading a pass from April Sulaica over the goalkeeper for a 1-0 TLU lead. Texas Lutheran held that lead until the 70
th minute when
Chelsea Graham scored the equalizer for UMHB off an assist from
Bailey Aleman. The Cru pressed hard in the final minutes of regulation with three shots on goal, but was unable to score. The game remained tied after regulation and through the overtime periods to end in a draw.
UMHB outshot the Bulldogs 16-7 in the match, putting 10 shots on goal. UMHB fired four shots in overtime and limited the Bulldogs to just two in the first 10 minutes of extra play.
Grace Greenly led the Cru with four shots, followed by Graham with three.
Emmy McMaude played all 110 minutes in the net for UMHB, recording three saves with one goal allowed. Stephanie Barrientos played the full contest for TLU, making nine saves.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, September 7
th in a 5 p.m. (PT) contest against Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. The Cru will play one more game in Tacoma on Saturday, September 8
th before returning home for the American Southwest Conference opener against East Texas Baptist University on Thursday, September 13
th at 5 p.m. in Belton.
