ROUND ROCK, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team used a pair of freshman to open American Southwest Conference play with a 2-0 win over East Texas Baptist University. UMHB improved to 5-0 with the win while the Tigers moved to 2-2.
Patrick Roach gave the Cru a lead in the 8
th minute, one-touching a cross from
Jack Coad to give the Cru advantage. The duo paired up again for the Cru's second goal in the 60
th minute when Roach knocked in a header off another Coad assist for the 2-0 lead. UMHB withheld a late offensive surge from the Tigers to preserve the 2-0 win.
Roach led the Cru with seven shots while
Nick Villanueva added two and five other Crusaders added one. UMHB put eight of their 14 shots on goal and limited the Tigers to just two shots and only one on-frame.
Travis Aday earned the win in the net for UMHB, making one save in the full 90-minute contest while Bryant Botello took the loss for the Tigers, allowing two goals and making six saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 15
th in a 7:30 p.m. game against LeTourneau University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
